Purpose

The K-State Libraries Sustainability Matrix seeks to: Develop, promote, and support opportunities for K-State students, faculty, staff and community members to discover and partner on projects related to sustainability. Advocate for and participate in sustainability-related initiatives through collaboration on sustainability-focused projects and through the discovery and sharing of resources.

What is Sustainability?

Sustainable development is our ability to "meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." — 1987 Our Common Future (Brundtland Report) World Commission on Environment and Development

"...to create and maintain conditions under which man and nature can exist in productive harmony, and fulfill the social, economic, and other requirements of present and future generations of Americans." — 1969 National Environmental Protection Act
