What is an e-book?

eBook is short for for electronic book and often refers to popular or leisure digital copies of books that may downloaded onto portable electronic devices, including eBook readers. Access to scholarly eBooks from academic libraries is sometimes different. Although they are still eBooks and their access varies, they are usually accessed through a computer or mobile device using a web browser and their access is really electronic access to books.


What is different about a scholarly e-book?

Due to licensing agreements with publishers, access for academic libraries to scholarly eBooks varies greatly. Some eBooks may be downloaded to mobile devices; others may be downloaded one chapter at a time. Some limit the number of chapters that can be downloaded and many may be viewed on computers and mobile devices using a web browser.
