American Factfinder

The U.S. Census gateway to population, housing, economic and geographic data. Includes downloadable U.S. Census data tables and explanations of data fields.

Cartographic Boundary Files

Available from the US Census Bureau, these boundary files are simplified representations of selected geographic areas from the MAF/TIGER geographic database.  These boundary files are specifically designed for small scale thematic mapping.

 

Center for Economic Development and Business Research (WSU)

The mission is to enhance the region's economic growth and development by collecting, analyzing and disseminating business, economic and demographic information and conducting applied business, economic and demographic research.

 

Docking Institute of Public Affairs (FHSU)

With a primary mission to facilitate effective public policy decision making among governmental and non-profit entities, the Docking Institute's main services include Survey and Focus Group Research, Economic Impact Analysis, Public Policy Analysis, and Strategic Planning.

The gateway to statistics from over 100 U.S. Federal agencies. Users can search for statistics by topic, locality, and by agency.

 

HUD User Data Sets

Data sets available for download from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) including: housing surveys, assisted housing, fair market rents, government sponsored enterprise data, qualified census tracts and difficult development areas, and many others.

 

KU Institute for Policy and Social Research (IPSR)

Brings together social scientists from a broad range of disciplines to pursue and conduct sponsored research at the international, national, regional, state, and local levels. IPSR affiliated faculty represent disciplines such as economics, education, environmental studies, geography, political science, public administration, social welfare, sociology, and urban planning.

 

Minority Data Resource Center

From ICPSR at the University of Michigan, the goal of MDRC "is to provide educators, researchers and students with data resources that can be used in the analysis of issues affecting racial and ethnic minority populations in the United States." Download tabular data files related to discrimination, employment, housing and immigration, among other subjects.

 

NHGIS (National Historical Geographic Information System)

Provides access to data and GIS files for historic census and business titles in easy-to-read charts of data and boundary file availability. Users can select the date, geography, and variable(s) for desired data. Boundary files for GIS use are available either via the Shape Finder option or in the last step of the data downloading process. Boundary files are not available for all variables and geographies. Download options include SPSS, SAS, Stata, CSV file, GIS CSV file, and shapefiles. Must register before accessing data, but there is no charge.

 

OnTheMap (Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics)

From the US Census Bureau and Cornell University, detailed, dynamic information about local economies - workers, employers, and jobs, including commuters.

 

Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC)

Use the SEDAC Gateway to search for socioeconomic data using an electronic catalog of data resources.

 

State Data Center (State Library)

Provides demographic and economic data from the U.S. Census Bureau and other sources to their patrons.

 

State of Kansas GIS Data Access and Support Center (DASC)

Current geospatial data acquired and developed for the state of Kansas from various Federal, State, and educational institutions, are stored and distributed here.
