Military Veteran Children's Authors

This LibGuide showcases military veterans who have authored children's books,

The K-State Libraries' Military Veterans Children's Authors Project seeks to identify and index children's authors who have served in the military (both U.S. and international authors), in addition to collecting their selected works directed at a children's audience. Since 2014, K-State Libraries have begun the process of acquiring books with the help of a generous grant, provided by the K-State Libraries' NEH Endowment Committee. This LibGuide intends to serve as an index of veteran children's authors, the first of its kind, and will be continually updated as information is researched and discovered to detail each author's contribution to the war effort.

If you identify an author who is not on the list, and you believe they have served in the military, please email the details to Casey Hoeve by clicking on the "Email Me" button below the picture.

This project is dedicated to Shel Silverstein, who is the reason for the existence of this collection.

“Draw a crazy picture,
Write a nutty poem,
Sing a mumble-gumble song,
Whistle through your comb.
Do a loony-goony dance
'Cross the kitchen floor,
Put something silly in the world
That ain't been there before.”
― Shel Silverstein
