RefWorks is a citation management tool available to all K-State students, staff, faculty and alumni free of charge.

All K-State students, staff, faculty, and alumni may use RefWorks for free. This includes unlimited storage, sharing inside and outside the institution, Cite for Word and more.
To create a RefWorks account:
RefWorks 3 is a version of RefWorks built from the ground up released in Fall 2016. You can identify it by its blue and white color scheme, including its logo that features a blue square with a white piece of paper.
RefWorks 2 is the version of RefWorks we used at K-State 2010-2016. It is also known as Legacy RefWorks. You can identify it by its orange and blue color scheme, including its logo, which has an orange image of a piece of paper with its corner folded down.
This FAQ is the only place we use RefWorks 2 and RefWorks 3 to discuss the differences and switching to RefWorks 3. In other locations we use the word RefWorks, meaning RefWorks 3.
RefWorks 3 retains many of the essential features of RefWorks 2 while adding:
At the risk of great confusion. We do not advise using both unless you are in transition.
Warning: If you are in the middle of writing a document using Write-n-Cite, DO NOT move to RefWorks 3. Wait until you have a break in writing projects. (There is a workaround for this, by using both @ksu and @k-state accounts with different versions and using method 2 below but that can be confusing.)
RefWorks 2 users have two options for moving existing references into the New RefWorks.
RefWorks 3 permits one RefWorks account per university email address. You can have two accounts if you sign up for one with ksu.edu AND another with k-state.edu versions of your email address.
