What is an eBook?

eBook is short for for electronic book and often refers to popular or leisure digital copies of books that may downloaded onto portable electronic devices, including eBook readers. Access to s
cholarly eBooks from academic libraries is sometimes different. Although they are still eBooks and their access varies, they are usually accessed through a computer or mobile device using a web browser and their access is really electronic access to books.

What is different about a scholarly eBook?

Due to licensing agreements with publishers, access for academic libraries to scholarly eBooks varies greatly.
Some eBooks may be downloaded to mobile devices; others may be downloaded one chapter at a time. Some limit the number of chapters that can be downloaded and many may be viewed on computers and mobile devices using a web browser.

Our libraries have purchased electronic access to tens of thousands of eBooks and the number continues to grow. Scholarly eBooks provide a wealth of information that is accessible online.
