Learn to use the sewing machines in the lab.

Sewing machine and tools in the makerspace

Why would you be interested in Sewing?

Sewing can be a creative outlet, a way to fix your own clothes, or even a money-maker! There is a lot to learn, from simple things for beginners to more advanced things for experienced sewers.

Sewing in the Innovation Lab

In the Innovation Lab:

  • There are 10 Singer Heavy Duty 4432 sewing machines for regular sewing needs.
  • There is 1 Elna Diva 9000 sewing machine for applying decorative stitches.
  • There is 1 Brother 1034D Serger which is great for sewing knits and finishing edges.
  • There is 1 Brother PE-800 embroidery machine for decorative embellishment on fabrics.
  • There is 1 Juki Blind Stitch portable hemming machine.
  • You can practice lots of different techniques on different fabrics.
  • Collaborate with other learners working on sewing.

Here's a quick video explaining some things you can do with the simplest stitch - the straight stitch.

Walk-ins Welcome

Individuals and groups can use the tools in the space during regular hours and assuming there's no workshop going. No permission required. If you want help with any of the tools, just ask. We are happy to help!

Advance Planning

Want to plan for your group to do a project in this space? Great! Check the room schedule and make reservations. You can also talk with the lab staff to explore your ideas and discussion options.
