Open access and open educational resources (or, OER), are free educational resources that are either in the public domain or are licensed via Creative Commons or other copyright licenses that provide every person with free access to information. According to Creative Commons, open access resources allow a user to "engage in the 5R activities - retaining, remixing, revising, reusing, and redistributing" of educational resources (creativecommons.org).
Visit the K-State Libraries page on OER for more information.
Creative Commons (CC) works within copyright law. However, CC grants specific permissions on a user's work depending on what the original creator has deemed appropriate use of their work. There are many different avenues that can be taken within CC. We recommend checking out the K-State Libraries page on Creative Commons to familiarize yourself with what is available. For additional questions on Creative Commons, please contact Andi Parrish for more information.
Open access and OER are part of Creative Commons and copyright. For basic inquiries around copyright and Creative Commons, please contact Andi Parrish for more information.
K-State has a copyright center that is dedicated to helping students, faculty, and staff understand copyright and the laws there within. For any legal questions pertaining to copyright, we suggest contacting the K-State Copyright Center for more information and to possibly speak to a copyright expert and/or a copyright lawyer.
