What Is a Case?

Cases are written decisions issued by a court and are often referred to as opinions or decisions.  There are a number of ways to locate cases: citation, name, topic.

Locate a Case by Citation

Locate a Case by Name

Nexis Uni is the database for this search.  You may also be able to find a specific case using Google.

Locate a Case by Topic

If you have a topic in mind and want to know if it was ever the subject of a lawsuit, try a digest.  Digests are available at the state and federal level.  Entries include short annotations, relevant statutory citations, references to other legal sources, and case citations where they exist.
