Studying Children's Literature
Children's literature is a rich genre and there are research centers and websites where you can dive deeper and find authors and titles to excite you and children.
- American Indians in Children's LiteratureThis site analyses children's literature, lesson plans, and other materials in order to help "readers learn about and understand the 500+ federally recognized Native Nations in the United States."
- The Brown BookshelfThis site celebrates Black authors of children's literature. Check out their project, "28 Days Later," where they feature an African-American author for every day of Black History Month.
- Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)Located at the University of Wisconsin's School of Education. The CCBC has many projects, including one to help educators, parents, and others identify "authentic, reliable books" so that all children have the opportunity to see themselves in the books that they read. Importantly, the CCBC collects and reports data about children's literature and representation.
