What on earth is GIS?
Geographic Information System (GIS) is a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, and display geographically-referenced data. It allows users to integrate multiple layers of data from various sources, such as maps, satellite images, and aerial photography, to create a comprehensive view of an area. GIS is important because it helps us understand and manage complex relationships between natural and human-made environments. It is widely used in a range of fields, including urban planning, natural resource management, emergency response, and public health. With the rapid increase in data and technology, GIS has become an essential tool for research, planning, and decision-making in a variety of industries.
