American Library Association Award

Pura Belpré Award

Pura Belpré was the first Latina librarian at the New York Public Library. Established in 1996, this award is granted annually to a Latino/a writer and illustrator whose work of children's literature best celebrates Latino culture. The award is co-sponsored by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, and REFORMA, the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking.
